Fundraising as a Career Path in the Nonprofit Sector

101765824
We Planet Earth is a Canada-based nonprofit organization that coordinates fundraising campaigns for charities, such as Plan International, Save the Children, and the Ottawa Humane Society. We Planet Earth hires motivated and driven canvassers to raise awareness and collect donations.

Canvassing can be an ideal entry-level role for individuals interested in working in the fundraising industry. Nonprofit organizations rely on donations and grants to finance their important work. For this reason, experienced and skilled fundraisers are in-demand. Since fundraising activities are diverse and require distinct skills, there are suitable career paths for all types of individuals. For example, people with a background or interest in event planning can focus on hosting events that attract and recognize donors.

Former lawyers, bankers, or financial service professionals may do well helping wealthy donors set up private foundations or charitable trusts. People with strong interpersonal skills may enjoy donor relationships and fundraising campaign management. After several years of experience, people in these roles may advance to positions such as Development Manager or Director of Development.

UNICEF Report Calls for Urgent Action to Protect Children

We Planet Earth is an Ottawa, Ontario-based organization that raises funds for nonprofits around the world. Founded by entrepreneur Miles Duggal, We Planet Earth has carried out numerous fundraising and outreach efforts to benefit organizations such as UNICEF.

In partnership with the World Health Organization and Lancet, UNICEF recently commissioned a comprehensive study to evaluate how the world’s countries are protecting their children’s health, environment, and future. The report was released in February 2020.

Titled “A Future for the World’s Children,” the report revealed that the well-being and future of children around the world are threatened by climate change, ecological degradation, and exploitative marketing that pushes sugary drinks, fast food, and drugs. The report stated that if the world’s temperature rises more than 4 degrees C by 2100, as is projected, the change will severely impact health and lives through heat waves, sea-level rise, and proliferation of diseases.

The report found a huge increase in the number of harmful marketing practices. In Australia, for example, children were exposed to 51 million alcohol ads in one year.

To protect children’s health and future, the report recommends that countries should stop their carbon emissions, incorporate children in decision-making, and tighten state regulations on harmful marketing.

Founded by Miles Duggal, We Planet Earth is an organization that works for the benefit of charities around the globe. Through effective marketing and fundraising strategies, We Planet Earth supports charities and nonprofits such as UNICEF.

Every day, UNICEF works to better the lives of children, including those living in disadvantaged areas. In Syria, for example, UNICEF is working in partnership with 850 health centers and 50 mobile teams to improve the feeding practices of infants and young children.

In communities with high poverty rates, caregivers often feed infants and children with starch and sugar solutions because of low breast milk output. Poor nutrition means that mothers cannot get the food they need to breastfeed consistently. Starch and sugar are the available alternatives, but these substances can damage children’s digestive systems.

To correct this, UNICEF’s team of 1,800 health workers in Syria empower caregivers with free consultations on child feeding. The caregivers tell mothers what they should and should not do when feeding infants.

The health workers emphasize the importance of exclusive early child breastfeeding and educate mothers on healthy food alternatives for infants over the age of six months. In 2019, UNICEF reached 142,400 caregivers, benefiting hundreds of thousands of children.

Save the Children Protects and Counsels Children in Conflict Areas

Based in Ottawa, Canada, We Planet Earth is an organization that raises awareness of global issues and the need to address them. Founded by Miles Duggal, We Planet Earth supports various global charities that work to end human suffering, including Save the Children.

On a mission to ensure that all children in the world have the opportunity to live and learn, Save the Children also protects kids from violence, abuse, and exploitation. Up to 75 percent of children in the world face violence. This can be physical, sexual, or emotional violence.

Most of these children live in conflict areas or regions susceptible to pandemics. Growing up exposed to such violence can leave children with life-long physical and/or mental health problems.

Save the Children’s mission is to protect all children from violence. The organization also provides counseling and rehabilitative support to help kids cope with trauma. In 2017, the organization’s protection efforts reached three million children.
